About the Role

Job Description


We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Fire Extinguisher Technician to join our growing team. The ideal candidate has a strong background in fire extinguisher inspection, maintenance, repair, recharge, and installation in accordance with NFPA 10, local fire codes, and manufacturer specifications.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities


  • Perform annual and periodic inspections of portable fire extinguishers (all classes and types)

  • Conduct 6-year internal maintenance and 12-year hydrostatic testing

  • Recharge fire extinguishers (CO2, dry chemical, clean agent, water, wet chemical, etc.)

  • Repair or replace defective parts, seals, hoses, gauges, valves, and cylinders

  • Install new fire extinguishers and mounting brackets in commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities

  • Tag and document all work in compliance with NFPA 10 and AHJ requirements

  • Complete detailed service reports and upload documentation using mobile field software

  • Educate customers on proper use, placement, and maintenance of extinguishers

  • Maintain inventory of parts, tools, and recharge materials in service vehicle

  • Respond to emergency service calls when needed

  • Adhere to all OSHA, DOT, and company safety policies


Required Qualifications


  • High school diploma or GED

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as a fire extinguisher technician (preferred)

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening

  • Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces


Preferred Certifications & Licenses (one or more strongly preferred)


  • NICET Level II or higher in Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems or Special Hazards

  • State or local Fire Extinguisher Technician license/permit (if required in your jurisdiction)

  • Manufacturer training/certification (Amerex, Ansul, Badger, Buckeye, Kidde, etc.)

  • OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Card

  • DOT Hazardous Materials certification


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


  • Thorough understanding of NFPA 10 (Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers)

  • Proficiency with hydrostatic testing equipment and recharge stations

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation habits

  • Ability to work independently and manage a route schedule
